Midwives and Staff

A Certified Nurse-Midwife (CNM) is a registered nurse who has graduated from a nationally-accredited midwifery program, and passed the national examination administered by the American College of Nurse Midwives. She is an expert in normal birth and well-woman gynecology. Though trained to independently manage women’s care, your CNM has access to physician consultation as well as collaborative management and referral.

Our midwives are dedicated to out-of-hospital, compassionate care. Our commitment to natural birth is why we choose to not work in hospitals. We stand beside you and support you in having choices about your birth. Birth and Women’s Center staff believes having a baby is a natural event in a woman’s life—that it represents a rite of passage. Our staff is dedicated to making the birth of your baby a positive and empowering experience.

Cherie Boettcher and Carol Bunker are the Certified Nurse-Midwives for Birth and Women's Center. For more information about giving birth with a Certified Nurse-Midwife, please see our Frequently Asked Questions.

Cherie Boettcher, CNMCherie Boettcher, CNM

Cherie Boettcher is the Director of Birth and Women's Center. She received her certificate in Nurse-Midwifery in 1993 from the State University of New York. Before opening Birth and Women's Center, Cherie was in homebirth practice, Natural Birth Associates, for thirteen years. Her exposure to homebirth has aided her in creating a homebirth atmosphere at the birth center, with the safety of being three blocks from Baylor University Medical Center.

Carol Bunker, CNM

Carol earned her Certificate in Nurse Midwifery from the Institute of Midwifery, Women and Health through Philadelphia University in 2003. She graduated in 2004 from Philadelphia University with a Master's degree in Midwifery. Carol comes to Birth and Women's Center with 23 years of experience in women's health and has practiced most recently at Women's Preventative Health Services in Oklahoma City. Her practice philosophy is the belief in the strength and ability of a woman's body to give birth with minimal intervention.
